I don't know if John Knowles would be okay with this, but I sure am.
As long as we can rework the set-up of traditional family dwellings to accommodate my need for personal space without constructing larger homes and more urban sprawl, I am on board.
Let's face it: I have no desire to breathe in someone else's recycled air, share in their cold sweats or deal with their snoring (or other inappropriately loud breathing patterns). It's not that I'm averse to cuddling (yaddayadda), but there comes a point when people just need to separate, get some z's, and keep body heat to themselves.
If my future someone is reading this and has a problem with it, we can talk about it over breakfast. Preferably, in the common space known as our kitchen.

Brad...have you ever shared body heat with someone?
And if you did share a bed with someone..is that why they got cold sweats? Is anyone else with me here? Cold sweats??? WHO ARE YOU SLEEPING WITH?
good grief brad, how is this post not going to get you in trouble?
I feel that this comment is kind of directed at me lol, so I will defend myself. Brad, I'm right there with you, I absolutely agree with you 100 percent, except for the fact that your house was FREEZING cold. Now, I'm not placing judgment on that, and I know that you had no control over that, but a.) your room is the warmest room in the house and b.) you have a matress right beside your bed wrapped in a velour blanket, who wouldn't want to sleep there?! I think I rest my case. Sleeping in your own bed is cool, unless it actually is cool, then it isn't.

Lindsay - I have shared body heat with others, and am a wiser person because of it; hence this post. As for cold sweats, I meant the idea of sleeping with someone who's ill - and having my body colonized by their bacteria. I'll take my flus from doorknobs, shared glasses, and consensual activities.
Lill - This post was in no way directed at you. If it was, I would've included references to thrashing. You were banished to Crandall's room for a reason!
Amen Brad, if someone is sick, it is up to the couple to split up the sleeping arrangments. This is beneficial for both parties, first of all a.)Who likes to be around people when they're vomming, or feverish, b.)Who wants to be in the same bed with someone who has a contagious illness. In fact I'm saying right here right now that I judge couples who sleep in the same bed while sick with the flu.
And the thrashing was obviously not a good time, even though you were warned.

Dearest Brad,
Hello life partner #4. Here is the scoop. My wonderful parents are flying me to Hamilton in May for Katherine the Great's graduation. Would it be wise to advise them that I only need one way ticket and than I can come to Ottawa and visit and then hitch hike home. Good plan? yes. okay. I'll see you in May.
Much lurve,
Emily Breen
PS can I come away with you next year?
